We’ve featured Minnesota illustrator Ben Hed’s work before here on Bored Panda, laughing along with his imaginations of animals flirting like humans, and featuring his popular Pixie and Brutus comic creations. His Pet Foolery Instagram page, which features “silly little comics” featuring various types of animals, has really taken off, with the success of Pixie and Brutus in particular bringing him closer to 1 million followers.
The contrast between Pixie, a sweet and naive kitty whom Ben describes as “playful and energetic”, and Brutus, a gruff and cynical former military dog, is the secret to the pair’s popularity. They have all sorts of adventures, with Pixie’s enthusiastic bumbling driving the serious and sometimes grumpy Brutus to despair. However, he has a real soft spot for her, and he will do anything to protect her from her! “Honestly, Pixie and Brutus was just another random comic idea I had while I was at work,” Ben told us. “I never planned on making them into a series, I just thought it would be a fun idea to introduce a cute kitty to a big intimidating war dog. So I did the first Pixie and Brutus comic, and people loved it so much that I kept doing them.”
