Pixie and Brutus are officially one of the most beloved animal duos on the internet and you can see why. Created by Ben Hed, the comic series follows the lives of two friends, a cute kitten and an intimidating soldier dog that you wouldn’t want to come across. And while this seems like a very strange friendship at first, that’s what makes their adventures even more fun.
Today, Ben’s Instagram page “Pet Foolery” has a whopping 2.4 million followers who come for a daily dose of animal-illustrated fun. Recently, Ben presented his other project in which he reinvented and drew animals from viral photos on the Internet, which you can see in our previous article.
But now, we leave the stage for Pixie and Brutus, who need no introduction except to mention the fact that more of the duo’s adventures await here, here, here, and here.

Bored Panda contacted the creator of Pet Foolery and the Pixie and Brutus comics, Ben Hed, who told us in an interview that not much has changed since Ben started the series. “I’ve updated his art a bit and started mixing up some comics where Pixie is older, but other than that, it’s pretty much the same as Pixie and Brutus.”
Fortunately, Ben said that his work has not been affected by the pandemic since he lives alone with his two dogs. “I work from home, so nothing really changed for me.”

Ben’s Pet Foolery Instagram page has a whopping 2.4 million followers. But when asked if the illustrator plans to feature human characters in his pet drawings, Ben stuck to his initial idea. “I’ve had some good ideas for human-only comics, but I think it’s better to keep it consistent with the animal theme.”

That doesn’t mean, however, that coming up with new ideas for his ongoing comic series is easy. “With animal comics about recurring characters and an ongoing story (ie Pixie and Brutus), I find it increasingly difficult to come up with new ideas and jokes.”
In a previous interview with Bored Panda, the comic book creator suggested not being afraid to try different things, especially if you have creator’s block. “Some of my top-performing comics were new concepts, departures from my normal style and format,” he said.
