Pixie and Brutus is one of those cute comics that bring a smile to many people’s faces, no matter how their day went. So far, the man behind them, Ben Hed, has amassed a huge Instagram following of 1.4 million, and these two adorable creatures are one of the main reasons why.

Ben, however, does not feel any extra pressure now that hex5cs got a giant army of fans. “I’m worried about the performance of each comic, but I’m worried about that before I created Pixie and Brutus as well,” he told Bored Panda. “I always want to do better.”
In search of new ways people could enjoy the series, Ben also unveiled his latest plans. “I’m in the process of getting some Pixie and Brutus plush. “I’m not sure when they will be ready, but I’m very excited to let them go!”

Recently, Ben has devoted all his time to his artistic endeavors, becoming a full-time illustrator. “I get a lot less sunlight, haha! When I was working in construction, I was out all the time, and now I spend most of the day sitting in my office in the dark with windows covered, so there is no glow on my screen! Well, I’m joking! … I mean, it’s true, but I do not want to sound remorseful about my career change because I’m not. The illustration is what I want, and I’m extremely lucky and grateful to actually get paid to do it!

As you may have noticed, Pixie is a small, cheerful, adorable kitten. An innocent fluff that is somewhat oblivious to the serious and dangerous things that happen around it. Brutus, on the other hand, is a large German Bar, with a scarred face. The owner of Pixie adopted him after Brutus retired as a Military Working Dog (MWD). You could say that Brutus is, in many ways, the opposite of funny cats. “He is a very serious and intimidating military dog, but he has a soft spot for Pixie and does everything he can to protect him from the harsh realities of the world around them.”

Honestly, Pixie and Brutus were just another random web comic idea I had when I was at work,” Ben told Bored Panda earlier. “I had never planned to make these cute drawings in a series, and I just thought it would be a funny idea to introduce a cute little kitten to a big scary war dog. So I made the first comic of Pixie and Brutus, and people liked it so much that I kept doing it.
