The areas of macro photography and illustration may seem unrelated, but in reality they are not mutually exclusive. An artist from India, Vimal Chandran, brings these two areas of art together and, as you will see, creates an unexpectedly powerful blend. First, he takes a close-up of flowers or other natural motifs, then he paints “Yellow Girl,” the character he created himself, and does cute things that she does.”
It was a fun self-initiated project. As a photographer, I am interested in exploring and observing the small world through macro photography. Instead of just documenting the world of the macro using photography, I thought of adding little stories to each of those photos to make it more interesting. So I introduced the character Yellow Girl and used the images to inspire these stories. This digitally illustrated character interacts with the macro world in a roundabout way.
Vimal is a multidisciplinary artist, best known for his photography, illustrations, and drawings. As this post proves, he draws inspiration and sometimes likes to combine these disciplines together. He’s no stranger to Bored Panda either, as his other illustrations have been featured on our site as well.
