My name is Devin Elle Kurtz, and I’m often known as TamberElla on the Internet. I am a concept artist, illustrator and illustrator living in Burbank, California. When I was a little kid, my mom went to college for graphic design and bought an early Wacom Tablet with Photoshop. Instead of giving me coloring books to keep me busy, she would sit me down with Photoshop and let me draw and color. Growing up, I learned to draw digitally along with learning to read, write and ride a bike. Drawing for me is soothing and relaxing, and I try to give other people that feeling of peace when they look at my digital art.
As a child, I had a strong belief in magic, and was obsessed with Studio Ghibli films about fantasy creatures like My Neighbor Totoro. I loved being outdoors and felt better when I was in nature. I’ve always drawn and can be found carrying a sketchbook anywhere I go.
I started having bouts of severe illness when I was 6 or 7, and in my teens, I was diagnosed with a chronic disease called CVS. These episodes increased during my early teenage years, and I spent a lot of time very ill and depressed. Through it all, art was the shining light at the end of the tunnel that propelled me forward and clinging to positivity. The piece Drawn to Light” is a depiction of my relationship to art as a chronically ill child.

Art and magic that are unique to me are the same thing. My belief in the magic of nature and the interconnectedness of creatures and the earth made me strong and positive during the worst days of my life. Over the past few years, my health has improved dramatically, and I’ve been able to chase all of my artistic dreams. I work as a background painter at Rough Draft Studios. I regularly create and post my animal panels for my followers on Instagram, Tumblr, and DeviantArt. I present and sell my drawing ideas at conferences and am able to meet many wonderful people.
