It’s no secret that Disney cartoons and their heroes have helped shape the lives of many. Some of the most adorable animal characters with big eyes and cute smiles have taught us how to be loving, generous and brave. So it’s no wonder why so many people like to see their favorite fur friends as colorful animated creatures.

One artist, Issa Bredt, a 23-year-old Dutch painter, makes this possible. She is the author of the popular Instagram account named “Pet Disneyfication”. Since 2014, photos of people’s pets have been transformed into Disneyesque illustrations, a whole new level of cuteness.

Disneyfication” is a term sociologists use to describe the transformation of objects or environments to resemble Walt Disney’s theme parks and resorts. In this case, our adorable pets are transported into the world of Disney-style animation, and they are truly magical.

Isa Bredt has always had a passion for animals and art, so it made no sense to combine the two to become a pet artist. According to her website, her greatest inspiration is the old 2D animation work from Disney, Dreamworks, and Don Bluth. “In my photos, I try to capture the soul of an animal, by twisting it looks like it could star in its own animated movie,” she wrote.

She has been drawing since she was very young and started sharing her work on Reddit when she was 16. After that, the project grew very quickly. Bored Panda reached out to the artist to talk about the process behind her work and how it has evolved over the years.

When asked about his favorite part of the process, Bredt told us that it’s the beginning of the drawing: “Looking at all the images, finding things that make an animal special, and then doing the initial sketch. I love exploring what features are unique to the pet I’m drawing.”

Since the last time we spoke, the artist admitted that there have been no specifically significant changes, other than that she has improved a lot. “Especially painting my backgrounds used to be a big struggle, and I mean, it’s still a struggle, but the end results are so much better,” she said.

Her work is truly magical and admired by many: “The people are so sweet! Especially if I did a portrait of a pet that sadly passed away, people send me the kindest messages and say the drawing made them cry. Or that it helped them heal because the pictures of their pet made them cry, but the portrait made them smile.

“I think it was while browsing a shelter site (the site where I adopted my cats) and I wished I could help the animals that had been in the shelter the longest, somehow,” she told us. “But it’s also possible that one of my followers recommended it once and is just unfairly taking credit for it haha! Either way, I wanted to do something to help.”
