POV: Marry Me – A Short Comedy Story
You take a deep breath, wiping the sweat from your hands onto your jeans. This is it—the moment you’ve been planning for months. The ring is in your pocket, your heart is hammering, and your carefully rehearsed speech is ready to go.
You kneel down dramatically in the middle of the crowded restaurant. Gasps ripple through the room. Your partner’s eyes widen. The violinist you secretly hired begins playing a soft, romantic tune.
“Will you marry me?” you say, your voice shaking with excitement.
There’s a pause. A very long pause. Your partner just stares at you, mouth slightly open. You’re expecting tears, a joyful scream, maybe even a dramatic fainting spell. But instead, they burst out laughing.
Like, uncontrollable, gasping-for-air, belly-holding laughter.
“Wait, you’re serious?” they manage to say between fits of giggles.
The violinist awkwardly stops playing. The waiter holding champagne looks extremely confused. The couple at the next table starts whispering.
You’re still on one knee, questioning every life decision that led you to this moment.
“…So, is that a yes?” you ask, your voice cracking slightly.
They finally stop laughing, wipe a tear from their eye, and smile. “Of course! But you looked so nervous, I thought you were about to confess you ate my leftovers.”
The entire restaurant erupts into applause. The violinist picks up where he left off. And as you slip the ring onto their finger, you realize—this was the most ridiculous, perfect proposal ever.
